Volunteer Opportunities
Here at the Goudreau Museum of Mathematics, we like to give our volunteers more opportunities than just "licking envelopes". Listed below is an outline of possible activities that you might be interested in. However, if you have an interest that does not fall into any one of these categories, do not hesitate to call us at 516-747-0777. Whether you are interested in helping out one afternoon a week, once a month, or once a year, we always welcome new people and new ideas!
Retail/Museum Store
-assist customers
-set up and maintain inventory of merchandise
-research new products
Writing/Newsletter
-write/edit articles for quarterly
newsletter
-design artwork for newsletter
-assist with layout
-write descriptions of displays for record-keeping purposes
Art/Photography
-create signs labeling displays
-design and create artwork for flyers
-photograph all displays (some are being repaired)
Clerical
-coordinate mailings of special events
programming information
-perform light data entry
-organize library collection
Are you handy?
-repair polyhedra models using special
procedures (training provided)
-build new exhibits out of wood (off-site)
Are you a people person?
-assist with Saturday museum openings
(noon-3 pm):
greet people, collect admission fees, give helpful hints
-help with special events programs
-assist with workshops
Rachel and Ray are helping a young visitor during a Family
Fun Games event.
Computer
-evaluate our computers and assist in networking, installing software
-design and update our website
